Earth Horse Institute Events Flayer Template

This template has gone through tons of steps, it has been the industry standard to create and edit the templates and mockups in Adobe Photoshop using a feature called “smart objects”, however, I believe that I have achieved a similar result using MS Word in this template after many attempts, these are the major points:

First, I have designed the entire template on Adobe Photoshop;
Then, separate the layers into static and variables, the static have been then saved as the background you see in JPEG format;
Then converted it into a PDF to get the measurements in Adobe in design;
Converted it into an editable PDF from there;
Opened the file in Adobe Acrobat and saved it as Word document;
Opened it in Word and saved it into .docx format to assure compatibility;
Placed the typing tool over the locations where I originally placed my text in  and then replaced it in Word.

Tackling Word challenges

The image placement has created a design issue, due to the limited editing options in Word, so I had to create a solution in order to match the result that I have got with Photoshop. My solution was to a piece of the design as an image that you can place over the image (masking piece) and makes it all looks as United as if it was designing it in Photoshop. Saving it in a PNG format has provided the required transparent background. It was just right. :)

Typeface selection

I have chosen Ebrima typeface as the dominant sans-serif typeface due to its features and availability on almost all devices, not to mention its freemium if you wanted to download it from the web.
It clearly shows its uniqueness in the word “events”.

For this particular event, I have paired it up with the serif typeface Cooper, which is another free and widely available typeface, because the topic is about the mushrooms and this blobby font is quite a match in my opinion.

My guidelines for using this template with Word

Use (send front/back - forward/backwards) features to get a hold of the image as it is placed under the (masking piece) image, although it is transparent, Word would treat it as a solid one.
I highly encourage you to change the paired typeface to a matching one with serifs so you get a vibrant and almost new design every time you have a different event!
